A wedding is not a marriage. Our wedding was just a beginning. Thirty years ago today, Alan and I began a journey that has included raising and educating two wonderful sons. We've enjoyed a couple of careers in a couple of states and a couple of houses. Along the way we lost a few parents, loved a few dogs and made more than a few deep, enduring friendships.
Not everyone is so fortunate.
In Cobb County alone, 1,200 children live in homelessness. For the past three years I have had the privilege of serving on the Center for Family Service's Board of Directors. For 62 years this nonprofit institution has built a strong community -- one family at a time. While we and others serve those who ARE homeless, CFR seeks also to PREVENT homelessness and the resulting lifelong trauma, working with families to keep children in their homes. Even months after the storm passes, CFR’s case workers continue to support families, empowering parents to mitigate prior barriers to self-sufficiency.
Keeping children homed is a mission that Alan and I are passionate about. That is why I am asking at least 30 of our friends who have the means or have been similarly blessed to consider helping us celebrate our milestone by donating $30 to the Center for Family Resources.
Strong communities are made of strong families. Giving transforms us all.
